Research
Extracranial-intracranial bypass in complex cerebral aneurysms.
That is the title of his doctoral thesis, defended in 2015. He continues to research cerebrovascular disease and surgical anatomy.
The circle of Willis
Where aneurysms arise.
The circle of Willis closes a ring between the two carotid arteries and the basilar trunk. Aneurysms almost always form at its junctions, and much of the research stems from there.
Inferior view, with the anterior aspect at the top
- Anterior communicating arteryAnterior communicating artery complex
The short bridge that joins the two anterior cerebral arteries in front of the optic chiasm.
Its anatomical and haemodynamic basis was the subject of his research proficiency diploma.
- Middle cerebral artery bifurcationM1 segment, at its division
The point where the middle cerebral artery divides within the Sylvian fissure.
- Carotid terminusIntracranial carotid bifurcation
Where the internal carotid artery divides into the anterior and middle cerebral arteries.
- Posterior communicating artery originPosterior wall of the internal carotid artery
The posterior communicating artery arises from the carotid and closes the circle posteriorly.
- Basilar apexTip of the basilar artery
The apex where the basilar artery ends and gives rise to the two posterior cerebral arteries.
